What does “certified organic cultivation” mean?

On 1 January 2009, a new regulation on organic farming took effect. It replaces the previous regulation (EEC) No. 2092/91 with its many successor regulations. The control system is an essential component of the EU Regulation on Organic Farming. In Germany, both governmental supervisory authorities and private boards of control participate in the control system. All producing, processing, trading enterprises and enterprises that produce fodder are inspected at least once a year. Moreover, additional surprise inspections are carried out.
